CHIPs are a new category but have captured the imagination of domainers across the world. In the spirit, .IN are no different. Almost all the chips are registered, and as of the scan done a few weeks back just about 0.25% were available to hand register. Repeating numbers are all well and truly taken and have been for some time with a rare drop here and there. Western premiums which were the “Gold Standard” before the advent of CHIPs, and surprisingly for an English speaking populace, still have about ~37% unregistered names. Finally as for Indian Premiums, there are about 47% of these class of names available to register.

The total number of different “CHIPS”: Doing the maths, we get 20 X 20 X 20 X 20 (160K) combinations. These can be found here.

The total number of different “Repeating Letters”:  Doing the maths, we get 26 combinations only. These can be found here.

The total number of different “Western Premiums”:  Doing the maths, we get 17 X 17 x 17 X 17 (83,521) combinations. These can be found here.

The total number of different “Indian Premiums”:  Doing the maths, we get 19 X 19 x 19 X 19 (130,321) combinations. These can be found here.

As noted above, and in the previous posts in the series, the rarest combination is the “Repeating Letters”. We can get fancy, and observe that there are only 20 names that are both CHIP and Repeating Letters, and possibly the rarest combination could be an LLLL.IN name that is repeating, CHIP and Western Premium. There are just 13 of them.

Evaluating Different Kinds of LLLL.IN Names — Part-3

In this third part, let us look at AAAB, ABBB, ABBA, and AABB patterns. The prior parts, part 1 can be found here, part 2 can be found here.

All the patterns mentioned above except ABBA are all registered as of scan done 15-20 days back. It might also be possible that even all ABBA are registered. As noted previously, the taken pattern follow the prices commanded by LLLL.COMs and hence these are eagerly picked up. The thing about ABBA names is that if the A is a consonant and B turns out to be a vowel, then the name can be easily pronounceable. Examples of these names are BAAB.in, MOOM.in, PEEP.in, etc.

Unfortunately, the above patterns can be either fall into only one of the buckets only. So, what that means is that if a name is AAAB, it cannot be any of ABBB, AABB or ABBA. This leads to a rather bland Venn diagram which I will not even bother posting.

Evaluating Different Kinds of LLLL.IN Names — Part 2

In the second part of the series, I intend to pick a few types of LLLL.INs and delve into detail. The first part of the series is here.

Let’s look at CVCV, VCVC and ABAB types of .IN names here. As you are aware CVCV are highly sought after type in the LLL.IN space. The reasons for this is because of alternating consonants and vowels which lend itself to be easily pronounceable, and hence brandable. Similarly, VCVC are also pronounceable. While there is a strong CVCV.IN buyout, we don’t have a VCVC buyout, yet. You can see the available names here. I’m not sure what the reason is, but I would like to theorize that this could be because CVCV.COMs are highly valued domains and the general trend of what could be good for .COM is also deemed effectual for .IN might apply here.

The total number of different CVCV combinations: Doing the maths, we get 21 x 5 x 21 x 5 = 11,025 different combinations of CVCV names. Download the combination here.

ABAB is an interesting pattern. Not all of them are easily pronounceable
but because of the brandable potential and rarity, these are all registered.

Now, a domain can be both a CVCV and ABAB, for example, DODO or PAPA, etc. Similarly, there are VCVC and ABAB names like OTOT, EMEM, etc.

Evaluating Different Kinds of LLLL.IN Names — Part -1

If you are a domainer then you would obviously understand the what a LLLL stands for, just in case you are new to domainer’s terminology, LLLL is any four alphabet domain.

Domainers like to classify domains for multiple reasons, and in the case of LLLL.IN there are various categories. To try and explain the different LLLL.IN types, I would have to break this out into multiple posts. In this post, I’ll list out the common types of LLLL.IN names and in the subsequent parts go into the details of those types. These are the different kinds of LLLL.IN names:

CVCV: In these names, C stands for consonants and V for vowels.  Examples of these are CASA.in, BIWI.in, SOTI.in etc.

VCVC: Like CVCV above, examples are EBAC.in, OSAR.in, EDOC.in etc.

ABBB: In this case, A is any alphabet and B is any alphabet that is NOT  A and repeated three consecutive times. Examples are BCCC.in, CEEE.in, AHHH.in OIII.in.

AAAB: Like above, A is any alphabet repeated three consecutive times and B is any alphabet which is NOT A. Examples are BBBC.in, CCCE.in, DDDE.in, OOOK.in etc.

ABAB: Like above, A is any letter of the alphabet and the next alphabet B (not A) comes after it. The same letter A comes again and finally ends with B. Examples are DCDC.in, OKOK.in, FIFI.in etc.

ABBA: A is any letter of the alphabet and the next alphabet B (not A) comes after it twice and ends with A. Examples are ACCA.in, DOOD.in, KAAK.in etc.

AABB: A is any letter of the alphabet repeated twice and B is any letter that is NOT a repeated twice. Examples are BBSS.in, OOAA.in, UUTT.in

CHIPs: These are names which do not contain any vowels and the letter v. Examples are DFRT.in, GHSS.in, JKLP.in etc.

Repeating Letters: These are names where ALL the four letters are the same. Examples are BBBB.in, DDDD.in OOOO.in etc.

Western Premiums: Names which contain these letters only — ABCDEFGHILMNOPRST

Indian Premiums: Same as western premiums above but also including the letters K and V.

Now each of these types is NOT mutually exclusive, for example, a four letter name like DDDD.in, can be a CHIP as well repeating. Similarly, RURU.in can be a CVCV and ABAB name.
